Coffee Table Turned Bench #2

My first bench was supposed to go at the end of our bed, but the style and color worked better in the guest room.  And I had the exact right size of fabric that matched the bedskirt on the guest bed.  So I picked up this second coffee table for our bedroom.  Another Craigslist find for $10.  It actually wasn't terrible as it was.  It's a little beat up and I don't love the shiny cherry finish and darkish glass, but the color is close enough to our bedroom furniture that I decided to leave it as is (for now).

I tried some different fabrics with it but nothing was looking right.  I was tempted to use toile.  I have a toile addiction.  I'm half tempted to wallpaper my whole house in hot pink toile.  But I just made chair covers and a tablecloth for the dining room in toile and it looks kind of fussy.  Ugh.  Anyway, I had a piece of burlap and I kind of liked it but I didn't have enough.  So I went to the fabric store and they didn't have the natural colored burlap - just cream, dark brown, and a weird green.  Ugh.  I got the cream thinking it might look just as good.  Well, it didn't.  I had a bad feeling I wasn't going to like it while I was covering it, and when it was all done I decided it looked like a boring, cheap, neutral cushion from a doctor's office waiting room circa 1991.

Once it was on the table I didn't hate it, but it just bugs me that after putting work into it didn't turn out right.

For comparison, here is half with the natural colored burlap.  It just looks richer and shows the texture more.

So I went to a different fabric store to get the right color.  Turns out fabric stores don't normally carry the natural color except during the holidays.  Oh, and the clerks at both stores told me that I absolutely couldn't and shouldn't cover a cushion with burlap.  And that I couldn't wash it.  Well, I washed it and it was fine, and it was pretty easy use.  Here's a close up of the legs - they could use some love.  But for now, I'm going to move on to something else.
By the way, I found my long lost belt under the bed when I took this picture!  Oh, and there's a dirty diaper on the floor.  Nice.
